Membership Barometer

From our American Legion Auxiliary National Membership Chair Tracy Kinnick:

Shout out to these states who are over 70% membership:

Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Hawaii!

Wonder🤔 which department will join them by the end of the year at the over 80% mark, I know you can do it!

Central Division Eagles have moved into 2nd place! The Eagles are flying high! Look out, the Southern Bisons are quickly stampeding their way to a takeover!

Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “The only limit to the possible is that which we believe to be impossible.” In our own minds, we tend to block and to accept that things “are what they are”. Are they? Well, according to author Steve Gilliand, they are not…things are what we MAKE them! Who said that we must accept that membership is low because of a numerous reason of excuses?

– I don’t have time.

– Not sure it is worth it.

– I will get to it later.

– I don’t like a specific person.

– I don’t feel appreciated.

– And so so many more….

There are many ways to overcome many excuses that we receive from people on not joining us in our mission of advocating for veterans.

– If it is a financial reason, host a fundraiser to help pay for membership. Christmas is coming up, why not give a membership to someone.

– Emphasize the benefits that are available to members : Member Benefits

– Be flexible on participation, offer many ways for a member to participate and feel appreciated for what they can do to help.

– Showcase success stories

– Be sure to help someone if they are moving to find another unit to join.

– Personal outreach, reach out to the member.

By actively engaging with members, not only will they want to renew, but they will also share their stories with others about their experience with your units. Word of mouth is one of the most valuable tools that we have in our arsenal to help grow and enhance membership!

Let’s work together to stop “accepting” and work together to make it what we want!

We have many Americans who depend on us, I don’t want to let them down.
