Membership Barometer
From our American Legion Auxiliary National Membership Chair Tracy Kinnick:
🎄The Christmas season has kicked into full jingle at the North Pole—music everywhere, hot cocoa in every mug, and marshmallows mysteriously disappearing faster than Santa’s diet. 🎅
As Santa strolled down a snowy path, pondering whether he should take up a hobby (knitting? competitive sled racing?), he noticed a commotion inside the NP American Legion Post the ALA Coco Elf’s.
Inside, a cluster of elves were mid–elf-spat, waving papers like tiny, caffeinated lawyers. 🧝🧝
“Umm… what’s going on here?” Santa asked, stepping in carefully—elf drama was more dangerous than black ice. (nail biting, what’s going to happen??)
The ALA Elves explained the crisis:
The Northwestern Mighty Oaks 🌳are stretching g their twigs across the division, the Central Eagles 🦅were soaring, and the Southern Bisons 🦬 continued their dramatic stampede shaking the buildings. Meanwhile, the poor North Pole elves were swamped—holiday season chaos, life responsibilities, and membership work all piling up like snow.
Oscar the Elf finally snapped, yelling something about “needing a nap until January.”
“HO HO—okay everyone, breathe,” Santa said.
Jingle Jangle, the president elf, was quietly building a marshmallow mountain in her cocoa mug—possibly for stress… possibly for sport, Santa could not exactly tell if she needed help or a sugar intervention.
Santa gently asked, “What do you need? How can I help?”
Jingle Jangle sighed, “Our members keep saying they’re too busy and don’t have time for the NP Unit anymore.”
Santa stroked his beard. “HO HO—well then, let’s start with this: Who ARE the members… and what do they need? Besides more marshmallows.”
As we approach this time of year members across the nation become extremely busy, post, units are all working hard to work the mission while also trying to work on renewals, retention, and growth. Santa hit it right on the head, who ARE the members? What do they need? Here are some tricks to help you:
- Talk to your members.
- Thank them for being a member.
- Be warm and welcome to new people who walk thru your door.
- Share your accomplishments as a unit for the mission.
I mean, if Santa can do what he does overnight, we can do what we do working our holiday spirit of being Mission Driven and Family Focused this holiday season.
🎁Give the gift of membership.
And to all a good day!
